Donald M. Healey Rally
Saturday, September 11, 2010
in conjunction with the British Car Union 2010 British Car Festival!
To commemorate the 112th birthday of Donald Healey, the Austin-Healey Club of America, Midwest Region, is sponsoring two events on Saturday, September 11 in advance of the British Car Festival. In addition to the 13th running of the D.M. Healey Centenary Rally, they will also be a running a gymkhana. The gymkhana and the starting point of the rally will be in the parking lot of the AMC Cantera 30 Theatres in Warrenville (just south of the Winfield Road exit off of Interstate 88).
The gymkhana will be held from 9 AM to 12 Noon in the theatre's parking lot. The Austin-Healey Club has been running these gymkhanas for many years, and each participant will be allowed to take multiple runs through the course. This is a not a high-speed event, and race cars are not allowed to run. The focus is on having fun in little British cars, and safety is a paramount priority for the organizers, and they reserve the right to deny participation at their discretion. Seatbelts and helmets are required and loaner helmets will be available. If you are interested in participating in the gymkhana, contact Bill Cantrall (cantrall@wrcresearch.com) or phone him at 630-969-4374 for more information.
The Austin-Healey Club is also proud to sponsor the D.M. Healey Centenary Rally which will start at 12 Noon from the site of the gymkhana. The event will run as much as much as possible on non-congested back roads, and will wrap up at the Millrose Restaurant and Brewing Company, at 45 Barrington Road, South Barrington, IL 60010 (immediately north of the Barrington Road exit off of Interstate 90).
Why change the starting point from past years? Two reasons, first this allows us to try out some new roads for those of you that have participated in past events, and secondly, this allows you to participant in both the gymkhana and rally if you are so inclined. For more information on the rally, contact Ken Olendzki (oilonfloor@aol.com) or phone him at 847-394-9215.
The entry fees are $15.00 each for the gymkhana and rally and must be paid prior to starting either event. If you want to participate in both events, the combined entry fee is $22. Trophies will be awarded to winners.
